'Gaudeamus Igitur': The title of this excellent show of male nudes translates as "Therefore Let Us Rejoice," and sets the celebratory tone. Classic work by von Gloeden, Muybridge, List, and Platt Lynes is shown alongside new materials like Jon Cockrell's gemlike Polaroids, Stanley Stellar's in-your-face tough-guy portraits, and splashy raunch by a Miami pair called the Bone Boyz. But the most interesting discovery here is Chicagoan Joe Ziolkowski, whose cool, compelling black-and-whites of muscular men, often hanging upside down from gravity boots, suggest the psyche and the body are in equally difficult straits.

Through December 30, Wessel O'Connor Gallery, 580 Broadway, at Prine Street, 219-9524.
